15 Years of Reproducible Research in Computational Harmonic Analysis

چکیده
Scientific Computation is emerging as absolutely central to the scientific method. Unfortunately, it is error-prone and currently immature: traditional scientific publication is incapable of finding and rooting out errors in scientific computation; this must be recognized as a crisis. Reproducible computational research, in which the full computational environment that produces a result is published along with the article, is an important recent development, and a necessary response to this crisis. We have been practicing reproducible computational research for 15 years and integrated it with our scientific research, and with doctoral and postdoctoral education. In this article, we review our approach, how the approach has spread over time, and then discuss some of the arguments for and against working reproducibly. 1 Department of Statistics, Stanford University, Stanford, CA 94305 2 Apple Computer, Cupertino, CA 3 Berkman Center for Internet and Society, Harvard Law School, Cambridge, MA 02138 [email protected], 5 [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

Thermo-mechanical nonlinear vibration analysis of fluid-conveying structures subjected to different boundary conditions using Galerkin-Newton-Harmonic balancing method
The development of mathematical models for describing the dynamic behaviours of fluid conveying pipes, micro-pipes and nanotubes under the influence of some thermo-mechanical parameters results into nonlinear equations that are very difficult to solve analytically. In cases where the exact analytical solutions are presented either in implicit or explicit forms, high skills and rigorous mathemat...
متن کاملClassical Wavelet Transforms over Finite Fields
This article introduces a systematic study for computational aspects of classical wavelet transforms over finite fields using tools from computational harmonic analysis and also theoretical linear algebra. We present a concrete formulation for the Frobenius norm of the classical wavelet transforms over finite fields. It is shown that each vector defined over a finite field can be represented as...
متن کاملModified Multi-level Residue Harmonic Balance Method for Solving Nonlinear Vibration Problem of Beam Resting on Nonlinear Elastic Foundation
Nonlinear vibration behavior of beam is an important issue of structural engineering. In this study, a mathematical modeling of a forced nonlinear vibration of Euler-Bernoulli beam resting on nonlinear elastic foundation is presented. The nonlinear vibration behavior of the beam is investigated by using a modified multi-level residue harmonic balance method. The main advantage of the method is ...
متن کاملDesignation of an Indicator for flashover prediction of porcelain and glass insulators based on experimental tests.
Flashover of polluted insulators in contaminated areas is one of the most important factors influencing the operation of transmission and distribution lines and finally line outages. Therefore, it is essential to prevent and detect flashover in the insulators. Hence, utilizing the insulator status monitoring systems and predicting their functions have absorbed a lot of attention over the recent...
متن کاملNumerical Solution of the Controlled Harmonic Oscillator by Homotopy Perturbation Method
The controlled harmonic oscillator with retarded damping, is an important class of optimal control problems which has an important role in oscillating phenomena in nonlinear engineering systems. In this paper, to solve this problem, we presented an analytical method. This approach is based on the homotopy perturbation method. The solution procedure becomes easier, simpler and mor...
